Worldlines for an Old Capital

This series of line scan prints reveal pattern, trajectory and rhythm replacing one linear dimension with time—worldline means trajectory through time and space. But these Kyoto scenes aren’t totally abstract since details of familiar reality can be seen if you look carefully at the large-scale prints. After recording thousands of photographs a few were chosen for aesthetic qualities but the seemingly distorted crowds and things are shown exactly as they were captured by the handmade line scan camera.
